Metamorphypus (Fantasia Fest 2023) review

It must be hard for writers to adapt as the years go by.

Getting used to new social norms and terminology, especially if what brought you to the dance has become outdated and old hat.

Metamorphypus is such a tale, as ageing novelist Steven attempts to reinvent themselves and take body horror to a new level.

Like actors, authors must have egos too, and to find themselves on the outside of the writing circle takes this man’s mind to dark places.

Director Joseph Carney tackles the subject of cancel culture, and how this author can still remain relevant in a changing world.

Also, anyone who has a thing about fingernails will find part of Metamorphypus to be wince-inducing.

This short is definitely one where the perceived protagonist gets their comeuppance just not in the way you expect.

Metamorphypus screens as part Fantasia Fest 2023.
