Independent horror short There’s Someone Else is now crowdfunding on IndieGoGo.
There’s Someone Else is a horror short film about a 25-year-old couple whose relationship has entered free-fall. In a last-ditch effort to rekindle their bond, Sophie organizes a getaway for her always-working boyfriend, Mark, at a cabin in the woods. However, Mark’s discovery of the diary of a woman who lived there over a century ago tears him further and further away from Sophie, and she has to decide whether to stay and save him from this horrifying presence or run away from it altogether.
This short is inspired by films like The Shining (1980) and Rebecca (1940). As with all good horror, it’s not really about the supernatural elements, but about what they reveal of our characters’ psychology.
The story explores themes of jealousy and the fragility of relationships. While the filmmakers want to provide a fun and horrifying experience, their creepy entity is ultimately a manifestation of our protagonist’s worst fears about how she’s viewed by her significant other.
The horror genre and its conventions will serve as a powerful tool to delve into deep, sometimes hidden, personal insecurities in order to tackle universal fears.
