The upcoming release of this indie slasher called Faithful Witness: In the Middle directed by newcomer NaKeyah Dae is set for release in May.
The newbie indie production company Rabbit’s Foot LLC, also co-owned by NaKeyah and her mom Shamika Douglas-Rice, is bringing back the iconic stamp of 80s horror with this upcoming slasher.
“This project was literally made off of a whim. [laughs] I literally wrote the first draft and pitched it to a lot of amazing people that said ‘Okay! Let’s make it happen!’ And when me and Lindy (Co-Writer) were re-working the script – and there were a lot of drafts [laughs] – I kept thinking of the simply horrifying yet entertaining aspect of 80s horror. It’s always this one killer that held a vengeance for whoever for whatever reason and they went on this killing spree that made you sit on the edge of your seat whether you’re laughing, scared, looking in disgust by the blood, or wondering what was gonna happen next you just remembered you had a good time and that’s what this project is going for. Just a really good time for the audience and I believe Faithful Witness: In the Middle can do that.”
-NaKeyah Dae (Director, Co-Writer, Co-Producer)
Faithful Witness: In the Middle is bringing back a lot of different 80s horror aspects to the screen that were inspired by many greats from before, with one of the main inspirations being Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th franchise). It brings complete chaos. It brings confusion and tension. But it also keeps it in modern times. Does it bring the final girl? You’ll have to watch to find out!
A promotional trailer was recently released March 3 on Rabbit’s Foot LLC official YouTube channel.
“This short film is bringing back the nostalgia of the 80s stylistically, while still keeping it set in modern times. This allows for us to see how slasher films weren’t just a thing of the past and can be brought back to this new era of dominating horror films.” – Lindy Smith (Co-Writer)
“Crimson (main antagonist) brings a new threat to a small town with his vengeance inspired by the classics. 80s horror was all about the killer returning to a place they were once wronged and Crimson follows along that same path.” – Courtney Laughrea (Co-Producer)
