Nestlings by Nat Cassidy review

Have you ever heard the advice of scoping a neighbourhood before moving in? Well, Ana and Reid from Nestlings could have done with this advice.

Author Nat Cassidy is back with an assured follow-up to When the Wolf Comes Home, which has echoes of Rosemary’s Baby with a sprinkle of fangs.

After the complicated birth of their first child, Ana is left paralysed, and they move into an apartment in the Deptford, one of Manhattan’s most sought-after neighbourhoods.

With resentment for her disability coupled with Reid losing his job, things are spiralling for both, and this is all before their child starts acting very strangely. Oh, and did I mention the neighbours are a bit odd too.

What Cassidy does really well is build up the tension until Nestlings goes completely bonkers.

I feel like it takes a lot to shock me, but there is also the end of a chapter that I visibly gasped at, so well played, Nat.

This is as much about relationships breaking down, paranoia as well as the horrific elements that Cassidy does well to incorporate into everyday activities which have become more complicated by Reid and Ana’s new lives.

A very gripping and enjoyable read.

Nestlings by Nat Cassidy is available now in various formats from Titan Books.
