The first official trailer for STARSUCKERS, the bold new feature from internationally respected Canadian independent filmmakers Brett and Jason Butler, premiered today in an exclusive feature with Rue Morgue Magazine, offering audiences their first look at the filmmakers’ wickedly entertaining satire ahead of its upcoming World Premiere at FrightFest 2026 in London.
The trailer showcases the Butler Brothers’ latest genre-bending thriller, a darkly comic exploration of celebrity obsession, blind ambition, and the increasingly blurred line between desire and deception.
STARSUCKERS follows Chuck and Eileen, an ordinary couple who believe they’ve won the opportunity of a lifetime: an exclusive weekend getaway with glamorous celebrity power couple Bjorg Everglow and Sasha Nightshade. Their dream escape quickly gives way to murder, manipulation, and escalating psychological games as the celebrity couple’s carefully cultivated image begins to unravel.
Filled with unexpected twists, biting satire, and mounting suspense, STARSUCKERS explores how easily the promise of wealth, influence, and fame can distort morality, identity, and ultimately survival.
The film stars Manon Ens-Lapointe (The Last Anniversary), Steven Hobé (How Disney Built America), alongside James Alex, Jersey Anderson, and Jacob Stickles.
The trailer launch marks the latest milestone for Brett and Jason Butler, who have become one of Canada’s most prolific independent filmmaking teams. Through their production company, Substance Production, and distribution label, Tiny Cabin Pictures, the brothers have directed, written, and produced ten feature films while producing or executive producing five additional projects.
Their remarkably diverse catalogue spans psychological thrillers, horror, dark comedy, documentaries, drama, and experimental genre filmmaking. STARSUCKERS will celebrate its World Premiere at FrightFest 2026, taking place August 27–31 at ODEON Cinemas Leicester Square and West End in London, with an additional screening at FrightFest @ the Arzner on September 5. Brett and Jason Butler will be in attendance for the festival.
