Faces of Death set for Edinburgh International Film Fest

Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) has announced that the Closing Night film of this year’s Midnight Madness strand will be the UK Premiere of Daniel Goldhaber’s wildly entertaining horror thriller Faces of Death courtesy of UK and Irish distributor Signature Entertainment who recently acquired the film produced by Legendary Pictures.

The sale was handled by 193, A Legendary Company and is set for general release in the UK and Ireland later this year.

In this eagerly awaited reboot by the provocative and exciting filmmaker behind recent cult hits Cam and How to Blow Up A Pipeline, a website content moderator (Barbie Ferreira: Euphoria) becomes obsessed with a series of disturbing videos that seem to recreate scenes from the iconic Faces of Death film series.

The film also stars Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things), Josie Totah (The Buccaneers), Aaron Holliday, Jermaine Fowler (Sorry to Bother You), and global phenomenon Charli XCX.

Directed by Daniel Goldhaber who also co-wrote the screenplay with Isa Mazzei (Cam). Produced by Greg Gilreath (Heart Eyes), Adam Hendricks (Heart Eyes), Susan Montford (Shoot ‘Em Up), and Don Murphy (Transformers: The Last Knight). Executive producers are Rick Benattar (Bullet Head), Derek Bishé and Isa Mazzei.

The film joins this year’s Midnight Madness Opening Night film, the World Premiere of Chee Keong Cheung’s riotous action thriller Bad Day at the Office in bookending the Midnight Madness strand which runs throughout EIFF and unleashes the very best in new genre cinema from around the world. Recent years have seen the UK Premieres of Alien: Romulus, The Substance, The Toxic Avenger and World Premiere of Ben Wheatley’s Bulk.

Signature’s Senior Acquisitions Manager Katie Wilkinson-Javes said: “We were hooked from the start by this bold and highly commercial take on the beloved gore-filled cult classic. Led by a talented young cast who bring fresh energy to the franchise, the film delivers everything fans could want while introducing it to a new generation. We’re proud to launch at EIFF and then to bring the film to audiences across the UK and Ireland.”

EIFF CEO and Festival Director, Paul Ridd said: “Midnight Madness is all about bold voices, movies that take risks and filmmakers who embrace provocation. It is perfect that we close off this year’s selection with such a stylish and ingenious movie from director Daniel Goldhaber and co-screenwriter Isa Mazzei. These two have quietly been making some of the most exciting, edgiest movies of the past decade, and with Faces of Death they have crafted a reboot that is fresh, modern and full of ideas. It is also a total blast to watch with an audience. We are thrilled.”
