Immediately viewers will recognise Zachary Quinto in this short.
Quinto plays the titular chaperone who picks up a mysterious man and takes him to a secluded rural home. While this may seem like a hookup, it quickly becomes clear that sinister motives are afoot.
His questions from the outset make us feel like there is something amiss, and Quinto certainly knows how to do creepy as anyone who saw AHS: Asylum can attest to.
Chaperone has the DNA of an erotic thriller but coupled with a rather cold and sombre tone feels strangely uneven.
Like most shorts, its final shot is the money shot, but here director Sam Max goes for haunting over a wham-bam action closer.
Dark stuff.
Chaperone screened as part of Soho Horror Film Festival 2022.
