‘Steam’ short review

When a gay couple decide to spice up their relationship with a visit to a local sauna, things turn bloody when a killer starts a steamy rampage.

‘Steam’ falls somewhere between and erotic thriller and a slasher, with only a small portion of its 15 minute runtime focused on the gore.

We spend plenty of time with one half of the couple, Thomas, as he struggles with the idea of an open relationship. He is very much pitched as our ‘final boy’, although we are not sure if he escaped the killings by the closing credits.

Setting a horror film in a steam room in sauna is a clever setting, rarely utilised in the genre; with the steam able to hide people (in some case killers) behind the cloud.

Director João Dall’Stella has crafted an original short, which is a cut above your standard slasher.
