Will Roger Jackson return for Scream 5?

By Michael Monroe

On Wednesday October 28th, Vocal Q’s released their latest episode, where they discuss the course of voice acting career. Roger L. Jackson is notorious for his eerie voice of ‘Ghostface’ throughout the Scream franchise. Right off the bat- Vocal Q’s Host, Michael Winn Johnson , jumps right in and ask’s the question all fans have been dying to hear:

“It is official? Are you coming back for #SCREAM5?”

Roger L. Jackson swiftly responded with, “I haven’t seen anything announced, have you?”

What makes this a big deal- ESPECIALLY to the die hard Scream fans, is that Roger has been apart of the franchise since the very beginning. During the podcast, Roger L. Jackson revealed that during Scream (1996) he was only supposed to be voice-acting for the opening sequence with Drew Barrymore, Casey Becker. The presence & terror Roger’s voice brought to the scene while filming basically set the tone of what we now know as the voice of Ghostface. It was then Wes Craven, director, decided to keep him for the entirety of the film which lead to him being in every single film of the franchise. It’s worrisome to most to know that Scream 5 is well into production, & there’s been no contact with Roger to reprise the role? This film is special to most because it relies 100% on respecting Wes Craven’s legacy & respecting Scream. As a super fan, & as a critic from an outside point of view, I don’t think it would be a Scream movie without the notorious, and iconic voice of Ghostface. Let’s face it, no one can do it better than the original.

Hopes not lost yet though- There is still time for Spyglass Media Group to reach out & still make this happen. We also don’t know exactly how filming takes place, beings Scream is notorious for their secrecy. Time is ticking, and we can only hope that the right call is made.
