Recently, Spyglass Media Group announces Scream 5, resurrecting the Scream franchise which will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the two directors of last year’s hit horror-comedy Ready or Not.
Production of the long-awaited ‘Scream 5’ has been underway since the 22nd of September. Scream fans have been keeping a very close eye on cast & crew beings that Scream is notorious for their secrecy while filming.
Melissa Barreram shares these images on here Instagram story before, it was soon quickly taken down due to fans noticing a VERY familiar face. Could you take a guess, as to who? None other than the one & only, Heather Matarazzo.
In case you have forgotten- allow me to refresh your memory. Heather Matarazzo played Martha Meeks, Randy’s Meeks sister, who came to visit Sidney, Dewey, & Gale at ‘Sunrise Studios’ in ‘Scream 3’ (2000).
She mysteriously inherited a tape titled ‘Scary Movies 101’ that Randy, Jamie Kennedy, left behind at Windsor College. On this tape, we discover Randy was leaving his legacy, & giving the trio one last film buff insight on the rules of a trilogy.
Although there was no mention of Martha Meeks in Scream 4, there’s a strong possibility that Heather Matarazzo will be reprising her role as Martha once again. Why else could she be hanging out with the new cast on the beach?
Now, let me go on record & say, this is just speculation. None of this has been confirmed, but given the evidence- it’s hard not to wonder what Martha is up too all these years later in ‘Woodsboro’.
Scream 5 Fans are were overwhelmed with excitement once fans saw the series of photos, & fans have their theories as to what part Martha Meeks plays in the upcoming film.
Is Marley Shelton Returning Too?
Marley Shelton took to Instagram where she excitedly announced her reprisal of ‘Judy Hicks’. She was a deputy police officer in Scream 4, working along side Sherrif Dewey, David Arquette.
Fans were also quick to notice another familiar name she mentioned in her post. Many fans were quick on their feet & were able to get screenshots of the post right before Marley Shelton corrected the caption and removed the tag.
Is Billy Loomis Back?
Fans were able to get screenshots of the post right before Marley Shelton corrected the caption & removed the tag. If that name doesn’t ring a bell to you, allow me to remind you, Skeet Ulrich played Billy Loomis, Sidney Prescott’s boyfriend in ‘Scream’ (1996). Billy Loomis is the main antagonist of Scream and was a horror film fanatic, who pressured his best friend, Stu Macher, into helping commit a killing spree in Woodsboro out of anger for his parents’ separation caused by Maureen Prescott, Sidney Prescott’s mother.
However, producers & directors of the film have made it well aware that this isn’t a ‘soft reboot’ or a retcon. The directors are bringing the nostalgia, presence & fear to the audience by going back to the roots of the original film. Which leads us to believe that Skeet Ulrich could return to the franchise in a possible flashback/dream sequence.
Sidney had “night terrors” in Scream 3, so it could be possible to see another sequence like that in Scream 5. It simply could be a mistake, but can a production team make the same mistake twice? This isn’t the first time Skeet Ulrich has been tagged by a member of production.
Production designer Chad Keith shared to his instagram followers his involvement with Scream 5, and also ‘accidentally’ tagged Skeet Ulrich. Coincidence? Ehhh- possibly. As fans have noticed the tagging of Skeet Ulrich, many still come to the realization that the likelihood of this actually happening is slim to none. With the hype, and speculation of fans- It doesn’t hurt to dip your toe into the theory pool, & wonder how the producers could make this happen.
Scream 5, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on January 14, 2022. The directors are going back to the roots of Scream, but- don’t get it twisted, this isn’t a retcon. It’s a continuation of the story that Wes Craven & Kevin Williamson created which brought horror back to life in 1996. Scream 5 features many from the original cast and some newcomers consisting of Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Melissa Barrera, and Jenna Ortega.
What do you think? Do you think Martha Meeks could return back to Woodsboro & take Randy’s place as the movie nerd? Is it possible to have Skeet Ulrich back in Scream 5? Who knows for sure, but we sure do love a good theory. Follow Bloody Flicks for more updates!
