Wellington Paranormal review (Celluloid Screams 2018)

Wellington Paranormal

From the creators of What We Do in the Shadows comes TV series spin off Wellington Paranormal.

Hear we focus on the adventures and mishaps of officers Minogue and O’Leary as they are assigned paranormal cases in the town of Wellington.

The comedy here is razor sharp as the bumbling officers tackle zombies, werewolves, ghosts with mixed results.

Much in the vein of ‘What We Do…’ this is more comedy than out and out horror but it’s thoroughly entertaining too and a perfect companion to its feature counterpart.

I think my only gripe if there was one, is that the episodes are quite short in just over 20 minutes and it leaves you wanting more which I suppose is it’s greatest compliment too.

The highlight is the third episode where the officers tackle a house haunted by partying ghosts from the 1970’s.

It plays with tropes of the tried and tested horror villains and is all the better for it; no serious monsters allowed here.

Stars Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary also made appearances at Celluloid Screams in character, providing security checks of the room much to the audiences delight.

Hopefully a UK network picks up Wellington Paranormal soon.
