Held Down by a Shadow review

Debuting earlier this year at Horror Channel Frightfest, Alex Peace’s Held Down by a Shadow is an excellently crafted story.

We follow the journey of Scarlett, a teenage gay woman who is developing feelings for one of her close friends.

Although she wants to take things further she is very concerned about inviting her back to her home, but why?

Held Down by a Shadow has undertones of It Follows and demands you pay attention to the entire frame as you don’t know what you might see.

What is quietly refreshing is the fact that we never really get to the bottom of what is causing Scarlett to be so scared. We get glimpses, but for the most part we are left to draw our own conclusions on minimal evidence.

Slickly shot, it delivers a LGBT alternative for horror and could easily be expanded into something of greater length.
