As alluded to at the conclusion of the second series of Interview with the Vampire, Lestat is back and heading out on tour.
While this forms a large chunk of arguably the best series season of the Anne Rice adaptations to date, we open on a sombre note where society is picking up the pieces of our favourite rock star’s decision to come.
This once again is a reinvention of the Rice text with a modern spin, which gives Sam Reid the chance to once again thrust himself centre stage and steal the show as our favourite brat vampire.
Unbeknownst to some, though, given how vampires have taken down chunks of society, a turning point is coming known as the Great Conversion, where vamps can overtake humans as the dominant species on the planet. Readers will know where this is going, but the series does well to tease this out across the season before honing in on what the fourth series will become.
Jacob Anderson’s Louis is more of a passive presence here, but once he and Lestat reconnect after the fallouts of the previous season, the series hits overdrive and really delivers on all counts.
It’s bloody, it’s funny, it’s sexy, and it’s easily the best Anne Rice small-screen adaptation to date.
The Vampire Lestat is available now on DVD & Blu-ray from Acorn Media International.
