Synestesys is excited to announce that Screamfest LA will host the October 10th World Premiere of Postmortem, the latest feature from writer/director Andrés Beltrán (Quicksand, Tarumama). The psychological thriller stars Odette Annable (Supergirl, Cloverfield), Allegra Leguizamo (Tin Soldier, People Not Places), Julio César Cedillo (Sicario, Narcos: Mexico), Andrés Londoño (Fear the Walking Dead, Narcos: Mexico), Chelsea Harris, and Tony Revolori (Scream VI, The Grand Budapest Hotel).
Six months after her husband’s sudden death, medical examiner Helena Martinez (Annable) runs a small morgue on the California–Mexico border, holding herself and her teenage daughter together by not talking about it. Then sixteen bodies arrive at once: an elderly cult that took its own lives in a ritual meant to raise their leader from the dead. Processing them, Helena finds the ceremony recorded on the members’ own camcorder, and one survivor still breathing in the hospital next door. He tells her the ritual can be finished. She has a body of her own.
Postmortem explores mortality and grief and the dangers of not letting go, with Annable as a grieving medical examiner who examines the victims of an elderly suicide cult, then discovers the consequences when she attempts uses their resurrection ritual for herself. Beneath the thrills and scares, Beltrán said, “This is a deeply emotional and unsettling story — about grief, denial, and the terrifying cost of refusing to let go.”
