After giving us one of the best horror books of 2025, Keith Rosson is back with his own brand of twisted witch-themed horror.
As the title suggests, Crone is billed as a witchcraft story, but as with Coffin Moon, this is a far more complex read.
This isn’t to say that Crone doesn’t hit the beats you’d expect of a witch-themed story, maybe just don’t expect the crone to be flying around cackling on a broomstick.
We follow Eli, a father whose daughter disappeared on a highway road; an experience which has left him a broken man.
As a former law enforcement officer, his descent has been rapid, and even his attempts to keep the case alive are falling on deaf ears. Because of his aimlessness and desperation, he has fell in with a local gang, and could end up swimming with the fishes if he’s not careful.
This is what sets Crone apart, in that it is as much a witch story as a gangster and family drama, folded into one intricate tale.
Rosson blends each narrative together so well, and really takes the reader on a journey that could easily fall apart, but meshes together quite well.
At times brutal, heartbreaking and bone crunching, Crone is a perfect read that continues Rosson’s hot streak.
Crone by Keith Rosson is available now in various formats.
