Carry Me to My Grave by Christopher Golden review

I have to say author Christopher Golden is on such a hot streak right now.

Between All Hallows, The Night Birds and his latest foray Carry Me To My Grave, he is one of the must-read authors of the genre.

I think the key is taking things that may seem abstract or a bit out there, and injecting them into stories with characters who have texture.

In this tale we follow Malcolm, whose mother Maggie is on the verge of death, but what he doesn’t know is the hell that could be unleashed when she passes.

What we find out is that Maggie had been teased forever a day about being a witch, but what if the kids that teased her were right?

Carry Me to My Grave is haunting, beautiful in moments, gruesome and downright bonkers, but mixed together in Golden’s cauldron it works a treat.

We essential get a horror story which also doubles as a story on the road, as Malcolm is in a race against time to lay Maggie to rest. The stakes are high and no one is truly safe.

Easily one of my favourite reads of the year, seek it out.

Carry Me To My Grave by Christopher Golden is available now from Titan Books in various formats.
