Deep Star Six 4K review

While the name of Sean S. Cunningham is synonymous with the Friday the 13th series, his other directing efforts are quite varied.

I’m a big fan of his gritty teen drama The New Kids, plus there is the bonkers House and of course his take on alien sci-fi horror with Deep Star Six.

The way I describe Deep Star Six, is like George P. Cosmatos’ Leviathan but with less payoff.

When the crew of an experimental underwater nuclear base disturbs a huge cavern beneath their site, they accidentally unleash the giant prehistoric monster lurking within…

The issue is that the film takes way too long to play its hand, and by that point audiences may have checked out. It has gained a cult following in the years following, and those fans will lap up this release.

This StudioCanal release include 3 commentary tracks cast and crew, including Kane Hodder, Greg Nicotero and Robert Kurtzman plus vintage features and the usual extras like trailers and even a original EPK.

Deep Star Six is the epitome of a cult film, and fans who’ve been clambouring for a bells and whistles release will lap this up.

DEEPSTAR SIX is available to buy on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and Digital from StudioCanal.
