Listen To Your Sister by Neena Viel review

The debut novel from Neena Viel mixes family drama with something more supernatural.

We follow Calla, the titular sister who is tasked with taking care of her two younger brothers.

While Jamie seems to be on the right path, her other brother Dre is a bit of a loose cannon who is constantly causing Calla headaches. Couple this with her recurring dreams of her brother’s demise and you Listen To Your Sister.

Viel writes in a very personable way and really examines the relationship between the siblings, the hierarchy and what it means to give up a chunk of your life to protect your siblings.

Things take a turn when the siblings have to go to a remote cabin after Jamie’s actions at a protest spiral out of control.

While Viel really does nail the family drama element of Listen To Your Sister, the horror element feels a distant second here and you may be wondering 50+ pages in when it’s going to ‘kick in’.

The question is, will you carry on the ride or disengage. This title will prove quite marmite for horror fans.
