I have to admit, if my car started playing up in the middle of nowhere I wouldn’t have a clue what to do. I think I would just leave and go find help.
Suffice to say if a car, my car or someone else’s wouldn’t stop beeping (or honking the horn in this case), I would be pretty perplexed.
In Charles de Lauzirika’s short Honk, we get some horror royalty in Zach Galligan (Gremlins) and Tyler Mane (Halloween 2007), in quite an elaborate short story.
Galligan’s Bill is going through a divorce and is positioned as someone who doesn’t let things go easily. Is his conscience playing tricks on him or is something more sinister at play?
Lauzirika gives Honk a dream-like quality, with its shooting style and drained colour palette, like a dour winter’s day.
Honk has a real edge to it, and a layered performance from Galligan, whose haunted Bill really drives it to its final destination.
Honk screens as part of Panic Fest 2024.
