Bug (HollyShorts Film Festival 2023) review

I can certainly remember the time when you needed to create Halloween masks instead of buying while.

I have to say, some of my junior efforts are on part with the lead of Coral Amiga and Nicole Hartley’s short Bug, which screens as part of HollyShorts Film Festival.

This pre-teen girl is on a trip with her mother to her grandmother’s home but insist on wearing her paper plate mask, which feels akin to an early effort from Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s take of Halloween (2007).

What becomes clear quite quickly is the fractured relationship between the two. In a moment of madness the daughter, the titular Bug, runs off into the woods.

Bug, has a slow build but descends into nasty territory once we see what the mum is facing when trying to locate her daughter. We conclude with some chilling visuals that will haunt some nightmares.

Bug screens as part of HollyShorts Film Festival 2023.
