The Black Demon review

Trying to do something different with the shark attack movie is a tricky balancing act.

For The Black Demon, we have a gigantic shark borne from Mexican legend which in this film, decides to terrorise an oil rig that a family finds themselves stranded on.

Never has a shark movie had so little shark action. To say the shark is barely in it, is an understatement.

Headlining the film is Josh Lucas, who many will recognise from various roles, and while he does lead the narrative he never convinces as the leading man. Even comparing him to Statham’s Jonas Taylor in The Meg series is a stretch.

The shark is a metaphor of vengeance, given that Lucas’ Paul owns the rig which has poisoned the water around the rig.

This is a family drama masquerading as a shark attack movie.

In its defence the CGI shark doesn’t look too bad but you never really see it.

This is more the grey demon than the Black Demon.

The Black Demon, is released on Digital Platforms 19th June and will be available to own physically on Blu-ray and DVD from the 17th July.
