Terror Toons 4 (Gasp Horror Festival) review

Full disclosure before we begin, I haven’t seen the previous entries in the Terror Toons franchise.

Having said this, after ten minutes of Terror Toons 4, I feel like I got the jist of what they were about.

This low-low budget anthology series doesn’t really have any connective tissue weaving between the stories, but instead relies on its chaotic, zany energy to pull it through – and it largely succeeds.

It revels in its practical gore when feasible, but on the flipside features some horrendous CGI and greenscreen, to a point where you start to understand how little was spent on producing this.

Terror Toons 4 features well-known genre star Brinke Stevens, who also directs the segment Personal Demons, which is arguably the most coherent of the stories.

Linnea Quigley also turns up for an extended cameo, hamming it up.

The opening story Dr. Carnage Origins is truly bonkers, where we follow a zany doctor who is attempting to create animal/human hybrids. At one stage we get a gorilla’s head stuck to a human body, so you get the vibe.

Final segment Mr Switch sees a bunch of dumb bros looking to lose their virginities on Halloween to a woman who has transformed from a blow-up doll, but they are bumped off systematically by a demon with candy corn for a head. Yep, you read that right.

You won’t quite see anything like Terror Toons 4 anytime soon.

Terror Toons 4 screened as part of Gasp Horror Festival 2023.
