Appendage review

While some only child’s may think its great to have a sibling, it does sometimes come with a price.

In Anna Zlokovic’s Appendage, we follow Hannah, a budding fashion designer who one day discovers a mysterious growth on her body.

Veering into full Cronenberg/Henenlotter territory, she finds the growth is the titular appendage and her own survival may depend on keeping this creature satisfied.

As you can expect from a body horror feature, Appendage has its gooey moments, especially when it comes to tongue action (you will see what I mean on viewing).

Hadley Robinson is endearing as the twenty-something Hannah who is trying to find her place in the world and is then struck with this new and horrifying discovery.

Defty paced and with a surprises up its sleeve, Appendage is fresh enough to feel like an evolution of the body horror ideas planted all those moons ago by the Cronenbergs et al.

Setting the film within the fashion world also feels like a smart move, given the vanity and cut throat nature of that industry.

If you want your horror slimy and bloody, Appendage may just be the film for you.
