Little Bone Lodge (Glasgow Frightfest) review

They do say that living in rural conditions can send you a bit loopy; but maybe not as loopy as the folks in Little Bone Lodge.

Two criminals stumble upon a secluded lodge in the more rural part of Scotland asking for help after one of them has a nasty injury. It is unclear how this injury occurred and also why they are in this location at this time.

They meet the lady of the house along with her daughter and her disabled father. At first they are cordial with the woman helping the injury stricken man but things start to turn on their head as he regains his strength.

Little Bone Lodge very much exists in a grey area where linear good and bad are thrown out the window, and we are given a bunch of characters who are severely flawed.

Things get gruesome when the motivations of both parties are revealed and the film really revels in its nastiness.

Don’t be expecting some bonkers indie horror rip-off of Texas Chainsaw Massacre here, as everything here is quite grounded and at times harrowing.

There is lots to admire with Little Bone Lodge, with its gritty edge and grounded violence, just don’t expect to come out of it grinning from ear to ear.

Little Bone Lodge screened as part of Glasgow Frightfest 2023.
