Dana (short) review

Based on her own harrowing personal story, Dana, is a rape-revenge short from filmmaker Lucia Forner Segarra which has garnered interest as high up as next year’s Oscars.

From the opening frames of Dana, where we see our titular character stumble into frame, vomit, covered in blood and mud, we know it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

Segerra doesn’t shy away from the harrowing nature of a sexual assault, but what starts as an attack quickly becomes a bloodbath with the power dynamic very much flipped.

We get to see how Dana deals with her attack and the aftermath for the victim, and how the end of a rapist’s reign of terror is reported and discussed within the media.

Dana, in light of a broken law system for rapists takes the bull by the horns and begins to exact her own justice, in gory fashion.

While not always a comfortable watch, Dana is fully deserving of the hype.
