The Real Woman Behind Halloween, The Fog, Escape from New York and more: Pioneering Filmmaker Debra Hill book review

It’s very easy statement to make that not much is written about the late Debra Hill.

While she is well known for her work with John Carpenter throughout the late 70s and 1980s, Hill’s career spanned right up until her untimely demise in 2005 from cancer.

Here author Brian McFadden pieces together Hill’s early days with the help of family and close friends and does an admirable job of piecing together her career up until she and Carpenter began collaborating.

The fascinating part of this account is the lesser known Hill productions such as Clue and Adventures in Babysitting that get plenty of airtime alongside the big guns of Halloween, The Fog etc.

The only disappointment here is that it simply leaves you wanting to know more about Debra’s story and how she became an important trailblazer for women on Hollywood.

Hopefully this leads to plenty more being written about Debra Hill and her career in the future.

The Real Woman Behind Halloween, The Fog, Escape from New York and more: Pioneering Filmmaker Debra Hill by Brian McFadden is available now on ebook formats.
