Piper De Palma’s Carmilla shows that loneliness can be deadly, as a woman taking in a relative stranger turns potentially deadly.
In terms of queer coding, there is the overriding theme of being tempted by a good looking stranger.
Carmilla as a character is wild and care-free whereas her counterpart is more reserved and withdrawn.
Albeit short, ‘Carmilla’ does well to slowly unpeel its plot and although the tropes may be well trod, this remains quite a slick production.
Carmilla screened as part of the Soho Horror Film Festival – Pride Edition.
