Pinhead returns to roots in Hellraiser reboot

The lead cenobite for David Bruckner’s Hellraiser reboot is set to become female in a return to the stories roots.

In Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart, the Pinhead character was also female and quite different from the version we saw on screen with Doug Bradley’s memorable portrayal.

The story describes its voice as “light and breathy – the voice of an excited girl”, a stark contrast to Bradley’s more eloquent delivery.

In other Hellraiser news, Odessa A’Zion (Let’s Scare Julie) has been cast as the female lead, “Riley” too.

David Bruckner (The Ritual) is directing Spyglass’s Hellraiser reboot from a screenplay penned by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.

Meanwhile, there is also a Hellraiser TV series in the works from Halloween director David Gordon Green set to helm the pilot. Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Gallactica, Daredevil, Heroes) and Michael Dougherty (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Trick R Treat) will pen the scripts.
