One of the most pleasant surprises of last year was the TV adaptation of What We Do in the Shadows.
Whilst the first series retreads some of the tropes of the film, Season 2 feels like its own beast with the cast really enjoying a bit more creative freedom.
We get some delightful cameos including Haley Joel Osmond as a rabid zombie and a star turn from Benedict Wong as a crooked necromancer.
Plot threads from the first series are given time to breathe with Guillermo’s family past paying a part in his role as a familiar and secret vampire hunter.
The chemistry between Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak and Natasia Demetriou has only got stronger, with each given time to shine alongside the supporting cast.
What We Do in the Shadows has almost become a caper of the week format, with our vamps thrown challenges to overcome, often with hilarious consequences.
The comedy, of course, outweighs the horror, but this was always the case and going into its sophomore run the shows feels all the better for it.
With an appearance slated for Mark Hamill later in the series, What We Do in the Shadows is certainly hitting the heights of Season 1 and flying beyond them like a bat in the night.
What We Do in the Shadows is now showing on FX
