Indie horror author Lou Yardley’s latest novella is a melting pot of wild and at times wonderful ideas.
Yardley really does let her imagination run wild in We All Scream for Ice Cream, part coming of age tale, part mini monster epic.
Much like Director Michael Dougherty, Yardley comes across as a big fan of original creations for monsters, like killer gingerbreadmen.
Where ‘We All Scream…’ hits wobbly ground is the fact that so much is crammed into its 75 pages. The coming of age element is really engaging but it feels like our antagonists haven’t been fleshed up enough before throwing them into a living hell.
The visuals conjured are pure nightmarish at times and this is really a 100mph novella that demands your attention.
It’s possible this story could have worked better in a longer format and a tad more exposition but this doesn’t stop it being a fun read.
We All Scream for Ice Cream is available on Amazon Kindle and Paperback now.
