First thing I have to get off my chest; David Tennant plays a great psychopath.
We have seen his crazy chops played in a more downbeat way in Jessica Jones as the deadly Killgrave but in Bad Samaritan he really cuts loose.
It’s this stellar performance as Cale which carries the film from being good to being truly excellent.
Tennant is flanked by Misfits’ Robert Sheehan, who brings an everyman quality to the role Sean, one of a pair of burglars who stumble upon a kidnapped girl in Cale’s premises.
Once the aforementioned Tennant cottons on to what’s going on the games begin as he tries to frame Sean and accomplice Derek for crimes as well as pretty much make their lives a living hell.
For those who called for Tennant as Hannibal Lecter in the TV series, this will probably be as close as you will get to it, although for the record I’d still prefer Mads Mikkelsen in the iconic role.
Although it’s slightly bloated Bad Samaritan has enough twists and turns to keep you engrossed until it’s final frames.
Bad Samaritan is showing tomorrow (Thursday) at Arrow Video Frightfest on the Cineworld Discovery Screen, get your tickets HERE
