Happy Death Day 2, a step too far?

Blumhouse announced this week that filming had begun on Happy Death Day 2, the sequel to last year’s surprise hit.

Coming out of nowhere the film became a smash hit for the producers of the Insidious and Paranormal Activity series’, bagging over $122 million at the Box Office.

The sequel will bring back original cast members Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard with Suraj Sharma (Homeland) and Sarah Yarkin (American Horror Story) joining the cast.

But the question I’m posing is – is this a sequel too far?

Blumhouse has enjoyed great success with the aforementioned series’ as well as the Purge (which is also getting a prequel this summer), but is there really more story to tell here?

Happy Death Day was the horror version of Groundhog Day, with some great performances, a memorable killer and some great kill scenes.

What can this sequel bring to the table which can even match it?

Also coming so quickly after the original poses the question whether this is being rush released to piggy back onto the original’s success.

Blumhouse seem to, on the surface anyway, have a potentially big hit with the upcoming Halloween sequel coming this October, if it can live up to the hype of the first teaser trailer released recently at Cinemacon, but will Happy Death Day 2 be the end of their home run series?
