Which horror films are you looking forward to in 2026?

It’s fair to say that 2025 was another fantastic year for the horror genre.

From the stellar success of Weapons to the brutal Bring Her Back plus the transcendent Sinners; there was so much to feast on.

Now with 2026 upon us, there is so much to look forward to over the next 12 months –

Primate (9 January) – Director Johannes Roberts returns to the animal-attack sub-genre with Primate, which sees a group of friends’ tropical vacation turn deadly when a killer chimp targets them. This one has received a heap of praise on the festival circuit, so expectations are high.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (16 January) – Nia DaCosta is taking on the directing duties for the second part of the new 28 Years Later trilogy, after Danny Boyle’s widely praised opener. Hopefully she can make sense of that bonkers conclusion.

Killer Whale (16 January) – This has the potential to be 2026’s answer to Cocaine Bear. Killer Whale follows best friends Maddie and Trish as they find themselves trapped in a remote lagoon with the dangerous killer whale named Ceto.

The Strangers: Chapter 3 (6 February) – Renny Harlin’s trilogy of The Strangers comes to a close, with fans hoping for a steady conclusion after the widely criticized Chapter 2. Expectations are tempered with this one.

Scream 7 (27 February) – Kevin Williamson is in the director’s chair for Ghostface’s seventh outing which sees the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott plus regulars such as Courteney Cox plus unexpected returnees David Arquette and most notably Matthew Lillard. This time around Ghostface is targeting not just Sidney, but her daughterTatum.

The Bride (6 March) – Maggie Gyllenhaal is in the director’s chair for this modern take on the James Whale classic Bride of Frankenstein. In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein asks Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. They give life to a murdered woman as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (27 March) – The much anticipated Ready Or Not sequel sees Samara Weaving team up with fellow genre royalty Kathryn Newton (Freaky) against a fantastic ensemble which includes Elijah Wood and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (17 April) – Following Evil Dead Rise, Lee Cronin has the unenviable task of resurrecting another older property with his take on The Mummy. The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace-eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.

Obsession (15 May) – After breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price. Obsession is another feature which has received massive praise on the festival circuit, so fingers crossed for a sleeper hit from director Curry Barker.

Evil Dead Burn (24 July) – Sébastien Vanicek takes over directing duties from Lee Cronin, following the smash-hit Evil Dead Rise. Plot details are very much under wraps, but we can sure guarantee plenty of bloody mayhem is on the way from the director who brought us the excellent Infested.

Resident Evil (18 September) – Following the massive success of Barbarian and Weapons, Zach Cregger is resurrecting the undying Resident Evil franchise. The film, set in Raccoon City follows a hapless courier tasked with delivering a package to a remote hospital. He soon finds himself caught in the middle of an outbreak and must fight through hordes of mutated creatures to survive.

Werwulf (25 December) – Nothing says Christmas like a period-piece werewolf film from the master Robert Eggers. In medieval Britain, a mysterious creature stalks the foggy countryside, transforming local folklore into terrifying reality as villagers face an ancient supernatural threat.
