The upcoming found footage nightmare Primal Darkness has officially dropped its first teaser trailer, offering a chilling glimpse into what is being called writer-director Dillon Brown’s most harrowing and uncompromising vision yet.
Set to release in Spring 2026, the film promises a brutal, atmospheric plunge into the unknown, far removed from the B-movie fun and creature-camp energy of Brown’s beloved Tahoe Joe series.
Cole Harrington, the host of a popular outdoor series, sets out to track down the predator responsible for a series of cattle attacks in rural Nevada. The mystery deepens when he uncovers footage depicting the final moments of two missing university employees.
Shot in the Nevada high desert this past summer, production on Primal Darkness was as intense behind the camera as the story depicted on-screen. The shoot was plagued by real-world hazards, including treacherous terrain, extreme conditions, and even on-set accidents. Brown himself, who also stars in the film, suffered multiple broken bones during a particularly perilous stunt sequence, pushing through the pain to complete what he describes as “the darkest, most demanding work of my career.”
After years of entertaining horror audiences with tongue-in-cheek creature features, Brown deliberately steered Primal Darkness into darker, more psychologically aggressive territory. The film abandons humor and focuses on survival, isolation, and the terror of confronting something ancient—and intelligent—lurking beyond civilization’s reach.
“With this film, I wanted to push myself into uncomfortable places,” Brown said. “It isn’t fun. It isn’t playful. Primal Darkness is meant to unsettle you.”
Primal Darkness will stalk its way onto screens Spring 2026.
