Since the first Final Destination came out in the year 2000, fans have speculated that William Bludworth is, in fact, Death. With that said, the final movie looks to have laid that fan theory to rest.
The Lore of the Grim Reaper
The Grim Reaper, also known as Death, is still the main antagonist in the Final Destination series. It’s a supernatural force that never appears as a character, but instead, forces brutal and intricate chain reactions. Whether it’s a gust of wind, a shadow, or an environmental cue, the presence is always felt. The Grim Reaper has been a big part of the media for some time as well. In the TV show Dead Like Me, a woman becomes the Grim Reaper and is assigned to guide souls in a dark, comedic way. Sandman on Netflix takes a fresh approach, but still pays homage to the idea of death having a human form. The Reaper is also present in games. In the Sims, when a character passes, you can plead with the Grim Reaper to keep them alive. There are even casino UK games like The Grim Reaper, which is based on the same concept. Features include escalating respin rituals, which are aptly named as The Gathering, Raise the Souls, and the Reaper Harvest. With several graphics that pay homage to the reaper, including bones and a hooded skeleton in a cloak, it’s not hard to see how powerful the imagery is and what a prominent role it’s played over the years.
With the Final Destination series based on the idea that you can’t cheat death, it’s not surprising to see that fans came up with the idea that the Grim Reaper had been a part of the show the entire time. There’s a lot of evidence to support this as well.
About the Fan Theory for Final Destination 6
Bludworth has always had a lot of awareness regarding the Grim Reaper. He warned survivors about their fate by explaining loopholes in riddles, and he also seemed to have far more insight than a normal coroner would. In the second movie, he explains that only new life can defeat death. He also never offers practical help, and instead, says things like “I’ll see you soon”, before vanishing.
With Bloodlines, it seems that the fan theory has been put to rest. Bludworth appears for one final time, but delivers a monologue that seems to undercut the current speculation. The movie indicates that Bludworth is not Death, or the Grim Reaper. He’s also not a supernatural force that has control over the events that happen in the movie. Instead, he’s a man who is flawed and haunted by the knowledge he has. Bloodlines portrays the character as being a man who has seen far too much in his short time, rather than being the force that is behind it all. This helps to support the idea behind the movies as well, in the fact that Death is a formless and inevitable force of nature, which is far bigger than the fan theory itself.
