A Blood As Bright As The Moon by Andrea Morstabilini review

Vampires have always been queer.

They are the most obvious ‘other’ of the monsters we constantly recreate and tell tales of, whether on the small or big screen or in this case the written word.

Andrea Morstabilini’s A Blood As Bright As The Moon, sees our vampires given a chance a happiness, but with costs they may not have thought about.

We follow Ambrose, a young queer vampire who lives a life away from the public eye, while having the eyes of some of those in positions of power.

A Blood As Bright As The Moon, gives us an underdog story, with an erotic tone too which comments on the roles of different communities.

The character of Ambrose is a complex character, and benefits from Morstabilini’s writing, giving us someone who longs for love but also doesn’t make the best choices.

The pacing is a little inconsistent which makes A Blood As Bright As The Moon a sometimes frustrating read. Having said this, it does shift gear in its final third to really round off this alternative story satisfyingly.

Blood As Bright As The Moon by Andrea Morstabilini is available now in various formats from Titan Books.
