We had the pleasure of covering a selection of screenings from this year’s Sohome Horror Pride, celebrating a wide range of LGBTQ+ horror and genre cinema.
Here’s our reviews of some of the short films screened:
Bathbomb
Colin G. Cooper’s Bathbomb is a film that will have audiences guessing just what is going on.
I don’t mean this in a bad way, Bathbomb is a lot of gory fun.
We follow a couple, where everything is not what it seems, but could a bathbomb make everything hunky dory?
Cooper’s short is no slouch in the gore department and is also devilishly funny.
I’m In Love With Edgar Allen Poe
In an era of celeb worship on a whole new level, obsessions with different high profile people need to be managed correctly.
Andrea A. Walter’s short sees two goth best friends look to resurrect the titular Poe, but their intentions aren’t the best.
To bring the famed writer back from the grave they need to acquire certain items for their seance, which leads to some horror-themed slapstick. Some of the ingredients include black candles, chicken intestines and of course, a Joy Division record.
This is an exercise in being careful what you wish for, but who cares when it’s this fun? A rollicking good time.
I Hope He Doesn’t Kill Me
The dating scene of 2025 is such an obstacle course.
In a time where it’s easier to swipe right than have a simple conversation, it’s easy to overthink situations.
This is the basic premise of Nora Dahle Borchgrevink and Lyndon Henley Hanrahan’s horror comedy short I Hope He Doesn’t Kill Me.
We go straight into a number of outlandish scenarios which are straight up bonkers, but I bet there are people watching this thinking, ‘yep I’ve thought about that too’.
It is lighthearted inoffensive fun, which also riffs on gay dating culture plus some scenarios that wouldn’t feel out of place in a 90s erotic thriller.
