Next up is Proof of the Man on Limited Edition Blu-ray. Movie mogul Haruki Kadokawa changed the landscape of Japanese cinema for good when he introduced the concept of the blockbuster to the country with this gripping crime drama featuring an all-star cast. Adapted from the best-selling novel by Seiichi Morimura, Proof of the Man was directed by Junya Sato (The Bullet Train, Manhunt) and scripted by Zenzo Matsuyama (The Human Condition trilogy). Shot on location in Japan and New York by veteran cinematographer Shinsaku Himeda (Pigs and Battleships, Vengeance is Mine), it’s a compelling exploration of racial identity and the trauma of the postwar occupation period framed in the form of a whodunnit. Arrow Video is proud to present the film for the very first time outside Japan for the home-video market in a brand new transfer sourced from a new 4K restoration by Kadokawa.
Tune in to Deadstream on Limited Edition Blu-ray, a frighteningly funny comedy-horror from real-life husband and wife team, Vanessa and Joseph Winter. An outstanding satire on social media influencers and the found footage genre, combining elements of Patrick Brice & Mark Duplass’ Creep and Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead II, the film features terrific practical effects and creature design from Troy Larson. This fast-paced and chaotic journey into one hellish Halloween night delivers gore and laughs aplenty – all led by an exceptionally boisterous and charismatic lead performance from co-writer/director Joseph Winter. The Blu-ray is packed with extras including six archive featurettes, a short film by the Winters, deleted and extended scenes, the original trailer, and some brand new intro to the film by the directors, filmed exclusively for Arrow Video.
The slick and stylish American Gigolo has never looked or sounded better than on Arrow Video’s Limited Edition 4K UHD release. Paul Schrader, hot off writing the scripts for Martin Scorsese’s immortal classics Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, stepped into the director’s chair for the third time with 1980’s American Gigolo, a gripping tale of intrigue and deception set against the backdrop of sultry late-70s Los Angeles and starring Richard Gere in a breakthrough performance. American Gigolo is a feast for the senses thanks to cinematography by John Bailey and costume design by Giorgio Armani, not to mention a soundtrack courtesy of “Father of Disco” Giorgio Moroder including the Grammy-nominated anthem “Call Me” by Blondie. Co-starring Lauren Hutton, Héctor Elizondo, and Bill Duke, American Gigolo is presented here in a stunning 4K remaster and packed with bonus features, and comes with a double-sided foldout poster, six postcard-sized reproduction artcards, and an illustrated collector’s booklet. It’s also available as a Limited Edition 4K UHD Arrow Store Exclusive with alternative artwork.
Brooding folk horror spellbinder The Woods is released on Limited Edition Blu-ray, director Lucky McKee’s follow-up to his critically acclaimed character study May. In the tradition of such classics as Carrie and Suspiria, the film stars Agnes Bruckner (Murder by Numbers), Patricia Clarkson (Shutter Island), Bruce Campbell (Army of Darkness) and Rachel Nichols (The Amityville Horror). Beautifully shot by John R. Leonetti (The Mask), The Woods is a haunting tale of female empowerment and the occult, drenched with atmosphere and suspense. With a brand new audio commentary by McKee, never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage, and new interviews with McKee and Bruckner, the release also includes a reversible sleeve and collectors’ booklet.
Finally in September, Creepshow 2 on Limited Edition 4K UHD, with titans of terror George A. Romero and Stephen King delivering yet another selection of blood-curdling tales, with this follow-up to the 1982 horror classic. Retaining the same EC Comics flavour that made the original such a hit, Creepshow 2 – this time directed by long-time Romero collaborator Michael Gornick – is a standout horror anthology from the minds of two of the genre’s master craftsmen. With a brand new 4K restoration by Arrow from the original negative, the release includes a director’s commentary, interviews with horror legends George A. Romero and Tom Savini, and comes with a Limited Edition booklet featuring the comic adaptation of the unfilmed Creepshow 2 segment “Pinfall” by artist Jason Mayoh.
