The team responsible for gore-drenched indie slasher The Blade Cuts Deeper has been celebrating the film’s surprise nomination for a gong at the National Film Awards.
Shot on a budget of just £14,000, the Giallo-inspired horror has garnered rave reviews during a recent run in selected cinemas.
And now The Blade Cuts Deeper will contest the award for Best Thriller 2025 at the prestigious ceremony on July 2.
Director Gene Dolders, whose film joins titles such as Gladiator II, Adolescence and Havoc among the list of nominees, said: ‘This validates all the hard work by everyone who worked on the movie, both in front of and behind the camera. I’m extremely proud of what we all achieved on such a low budget.’
The Blade Cuts Deeper tells the tale of John Abbott (John Tueart), the egocentric host of infamous real crime show Lights, Camera, KILL! who has found fame by exploiting pain and suffering. But as he basks shamelessly in the limelight, one enraged viewer has seen enough – and now just wants to watch Abbott bleed.
