New indie horror Sweeney Todd: Slice & Dice gets its UK debut on 2 June 2025.
In 1846 Victorian London, Sweeney Todd is a successful barber, but he is forever haunted by the devastating loss of his parents at the hands of a cruel Judge.
Now he vows to seek his revenge. One night, he saves Tobias, a young man with Down syndrome, from a beating, which leads to a friendship with the man’s surrogate mother, local baker, Mrs. Lovett.
She too has also suffered a devastating miscarriage of justice by the same judge and his corrupt associates. Todd and Lovett make a pact, and it is her that leads the charge in wreaking a bloody revenge – in the most macabre of ways.
The film is written and directed by Steven M. Smith (The Ghosts of Borley Rectory, Essex Boys: Law of Survival), who is also the founder of Greenway Entertainment, and is produced by Terry Bird (Grand Isle, Born to Be Blue).
Although set in the 1800s, Sweeney Todd: Slice & Dice has themes that mirror today’s society, such as the cost of living, the importance of family and the cycle of exploitation in plain sight. It co-stars rising star Alexander Simkin (Gladiator II) as Sergeant Babwitch and British Independent Film Award-winning Down’s syndrome actor Steven Brandon (My Feral Heart) in the role of Tobias.
The film is dedicated to Terry Bird’s friend, British actor Darren Kent (Game of Thrones, Snow White and the Huntsman and EastEnders), who recently passed away.
Bird said, “Darren inspired me to produce this film”. Speaking further on factors for commencing production, he said: “The UK film industry had been very quiet and many of my friends had been struggling to find work, so we were very keen to shoot something new and brought our individual skills together to collaborate on this film”.
Sweeney Todd: Slice & Dice arrives on digital and DVD on 2 June, released by Kaleidoscope Film Distribution.
The DVD is available to pre-order now online and will also be available to buy in stores.
