Whether it is designed to be a sequel or a reinvention, this variation of 1987s original Street Trash didn’t work for me.
Filmed in South Africa, the basic premise focuses on homeless people being subjected to experiments that result in literal full body meltings! Disappointingly, the film fails in pretty much every department.
There is some social commentary about political exploitation of the poor, but really Street Trash is just an excuse for self referential silliness, punctuated by gross-out deaths that may amuse some but left me cold.
In fairness, the practical FX are not too bad and are the best thing in the movie, but they soon become repetitive and there’s nothing to care about in terms of the redundant characters or situations.
The broad acting style has everyone thinking they are being funny, when the truth is it’s all very juvenile and even worse, not at all entertaining.
Of course, there will be those who enjoy this and good luck to them, but I found it boring and asinine. Not the best combination.
Street Trash (2025) is available now on digital platforms.
