Film Mode Entertainment announces the acquisition of the new horror-thriller, Psychopomp, which will have its American Film Market (AFM) premiere from mind-bending director/screenwriter Paul Etheredge. The film stars Olivia Macklin (A Family Affair, The Young Pope, Christmas Always Finds Its Way), Dylan McTee (Wrong Turn, Sweet/Vicious, The Wind), Avangeline Friedlander (The Winchesters, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey), Shawnee Smith (The Blob, Saw, Saw X), Lily D. Moore (Never Have I Ever, Single Drunk Female, Teachers), and Morgana Shaw (Hit Man, American Underdog, The Long Game). Psychopomp is written and directed by Paul Etheredge (Hellbent, Angel of Death, Eli Roth’s History of Horror). Producers are Lisa Normand, Jeffrey Reddick, Jeff Walker, and Tim Nagle.
“We’re excited to be working with the incredible Psychopomp team and to be able to show footage from the film to buyers at AFM for the very first time. The film raises the genre-bar by combining the most popular and trusted aspects of horror and thriller movies and adds uniquely terrifying and dynamic elements making it a high-quality, engaging commercially viable movie.” Said Clay Epstein, president of Film Mode Entertainment.
Psychopomp follows a couple, Robin and Daniel – long struggling with infertility – as they realize their dreams of parenthood by welcoming an orphan, Kathelia, into their home. However, those dreams crack under the weight of Kathelia’s erratic behavior, which only becomes more frighting when Robin discovers she’s inexplicably pregnant.
“Psychopomp was born from a nightmare. On my honeymoon, I dreamed of caring for a child, even as it literally tore my new family apart,” said director Paul Etheredge. “Firstly, though, Psychopomp is a horror movie: thrilling, scary, grotesque, fun, and funny.”
“Aside from the compelling characters, dark humor, and constant sense of dread, I was really drawn to Psychopomp because of the emotional reality of the story. I have heard so many heart-wrenching stories about the trauma of children, especially for children of color, being shuffled from foster home to home and never having a sense of safety or belonging. So, we have a young girl, who’s never felt safe and a family adjusting to being new parents who find themselves facing a terrifying force that threatens to destroy them all.” Said producer Jeffrey Reddick.
