Late Night With The Devil – Blu-Ray review

2024 has definitely seen the return of satanic-themed horror with hits such as Immaculate and The First Omen, and we also have a slightly different slant with Late Night With The Devil.

After taking the festival circuit by storm last year, the film now has the bells and whistles treatment from genre specialists Second Sight Films.

Our story focuses on a TV show which aims to broadcast a live possession on Halloween night back in 1977. Led by charismatic host Jack Delroy (David Dastmalchian), we quickly discover there is more going on under the surface of this planned stunt, and things get a bit bonkers.

The attention to detail to its period setting is unbelievable, and after watching the special features you really get an idea of the lengths the filmmakers went to, to take us back to the 70s. Little things like the commercial breaks, the colour schemes, the music – it’s so on point.

Dastmalchian is quickly becoming a genre star, and with having his own fascination with regional horror hosts, he combines all of this and his own charm to really make Jack a complex character.

One of the highlights of this package is a behind-the-scenes reel, showing how the crew pulled off their slew of goopy practical effects which will have horror hounds salivating. We also have an extensive interview with directors Cameron and Colin Cairnes, as they delve deeper into the writing process and casting too.

An interview with actor Rhys Auteri is also a great watch as you find out his acting career was kind of a downward slope and Late Night with the Devil certainly gave it a boost.

Zoe Rose Smith provides an informative video essay about cults in cinema and provides interesting context which leads us up to the present day and Late Night With The Devil.

Being greedy, the only thing missing here is a discussion with Dastmalchian about crafting the character of Jack, but that’s not to belittle what is another stellar package for horror fans.

Late Night With The Devil is released on 28 October 2024 from Second Sight Films.
