A Better World by Sarah Langan review

There are moments when I’m sure we all wish that we could be whisked off to some mysterious utopia.

For the Farmer-Bowens this becomes a reality when they move to Plymouth Valley, a place where the skies are blue and the pantry is always stocked. Surely it’s all too good to be true? Well…..

Sarah Langan’s novel does well at feeding us scraps but you won’t fully guess where this story is going.

Langan’s strength is in building up our nuclear family protagonists before tearing them apart at the seams.

A Better World feels very timely, with commentaries on greed, wealth, religion and how the ‘mum and apple pie’ motif of the American family unit may no longer be fit for purpose.

A Better World does take time to warm up, but as long as you resonate with its themes you will certainly find things to admire.

A Better World by Sarah Langan is available now in various book formats from Titan Books.
