Signal (Panic Fest 2024) review

It’s a frightening thought, being isolated within a confined setting such as a hospital.

For starters, you are in hospital for a reason, but also add to this a sinister presence and you’ve got something bad on your hands.

In the French short Signal, we follow Deborah who has been hospitalized following a car accident, but her physical injuries could be just the start of her worries.

It probably doesn’t help that Deborah’s hospital is as populated as the one in Halloween (1981). With only her dying phone for company, she starts to explore her room, given the isolation she finds herself in, and director Jerome Pierrat really conveys an off-kilter atmosphere with the shooting style and well-timed music cues.

Signal becomes a bit more complex as the plot starts to unravel, with a really haunting conclusion.

Signal screens as part of Panic Fest 2024.
