After Neve Campbell signed on to Scream 7, with directing duties going to original scribe Kevin Williamson, it seems like another member of the original crew could be heading back to face Ghostface.
Variety is reporting that Courteney Cox is in talks with Radio Silence to reprise the role of Gale Weathers.
We last saw Gale in Scream VI where it was hinted that she had finally met her maker thanks to Ghostface, until the final reel when it was confirmed she was conscious following her attack.
I have to admit to being skeptical about Scream 7, given the car crash PR behind the exits of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with every move appearing to be an act of desperation to get fans back onside; but will nostalgia alone be enough to save the franchise?
I say this as someone who had a few issues with Scream VI’s tone and some of the performances.
Giving Campbell what she is worth financially is a step in the right direction, but why wasn’t this done in the first place?
Williamson should be allowed to create something unique, but given his inexperience as a director and how Radio Silence has mistreated their cast; do they see him as someone they can control instead of being given some creative freedom?
It also seems quite weird Williamson is directing someone else’s script when it would typically be the other way around, but let’s keep an open mind.
With Sidney and Gale potentially back on board, will they now fill the void left by Sam and Tara in the script or will we get a brand new tale from the Scream universe?
Hardcore fans will still flock to Scream 7, but will the absence of new stars like Ortega not on board deter fans of the last two films?
Plenty of questions, but here’s hoping Scream 7 can rise above the controversy and give fans a Ghostface they deserve.
