We all have that neighbour during our lifetime that we can’t stand.
Y’know the ones who you can always hear the arguments of, parties on a school night or is constantly popping over the fence.
In Shudder’s Destroy All Neighbors, this concept is taken to whacky extremes, with schlocky, body horror extravaganza.
We follow wannabe musician William whose world is turned upside down when a new neighbour, the mysterious Vlad (Alex Winter) moves in next door and proceeds to drive him a bit crazy.
When things get out of hand, William is given an unspeakable choice, as he tries to right his wrongs and save his relationship with his girlfriend Emily.
The initial concept of Destroy All Neighbors is promising, but beyond its overt, chaotic nature, there is little to engross here.
The body horror and practical effects are great but the story is severely lacking, which makes it a bit of a slog to get through.
Winter is the highlight, as the unrecognisable Vlad, giving him a chance to fully inhabit a character in a way for the first time since 1993’s Freaked.
Destroy All Neighbors is available to stream now on Shudder.
