Yes, it might be March but this isn’t stopping Michael Moutsatsos from bringing fans some Yuletide terror. We caught up with the director to talk all things It’s A Wonderful Slice.
Can you tell us the genesis of It’s A Wonderful Slice?
The genesis comes from my mind. At the beginning of the piece I have as many origins of Santa Elf’s and Krampus. I wanted to create something different in the stories. Fresh ideas I hate the same ol’ tropes.
What attracted you to the Christmas horror sub-genre?
The subgenre of Christmas for me. I always wanted to do Christmas horror but there are so many which can be both a good and bad thing. That’s why I didn’t want to rush my film.
You’ve got five stories as part of this anthology, do they all bring something different to the table?
All the stories in the anthology do tie together. Yes there are two Santa’s but they are peppered into the other stories.
What was the casting process like?
Well as far as casting goes I do have loyal actors I use but they also must fit the bill. I don’t put anyone in that’s not right after all a bad performance can ruin a film.
What was your favourite day on set of It’s A Wonderful Slice?
My favorite day of shooting was the Chapter of A Slay to remember cause it’s a cat and mouse what I mean by that is each character thinks they have the upper hand I had a great time filming in Big Bear Joshua Salazar Fallat one of the actors in that scene his aunt owned the cabin so it was all great.
How does this compare to your previous work within the genre?
Well, this film is different because of Christmas I mean all my films I pay attention to detail but this was getting the look and feel right. I pick the wardrobe the props the music I edit it must all fit.
What is the plan in terms of releasing the film?
Right now the film is doing well in festivals. I am looking for distributors so let me know if you know folks. Yes, the plan is to get it out the public will love it. It’s not filled with tropes I has fresh original stories to me being the writer is better than director cause it’s my words my vision my characters I love writing.
