Initially, you may feel like the concept of The Blackening should have been done about 20 years ago, but the question is; would it be this charming?
While the film carries familiar slasher tropes, and most of its comedy lands it is the heart of this film that will win you over.
We follow seven friends who are spending the weekend at a remote cabin, only to find that they are being picked off by a masked killer.
Loaded with genre tropes such as the jock, the person with too much to say for themselves, the geek; The Blackening uses all of these to its advantage.
The kills are creative but don’t go in expecting a gorefest, this is a more refined effort that is more of a slasher comedy.
Director Tim Story is more interested in building a world, and by the close of the film you will be thoroughly on board with the next adventure of the survivors of The Blackening.
The Blackening is released on DVD & Blu-Ray on 29 January 2024/
