A Call to Cthulhu by Norm Konyu review

Part graphic novel, part art book, Norm Konyu’s take on the world of H.P Lovecraft is a strikingly visual and quite funny affair.

Instead of trying to reinvent the classic stories, Konyu creates two-page takes on a host of stories, including The Rats in the Walls, The Color Out of Space, At the Mountains of Madness and The White Ship, just to name a few.

Konyu brings the stories into the modern realm, even physically calling Cthulhu on its mobile to troll it, which given the influence this being has cast on fiction over the past 90 years is kind of deserved.

This type of narrative won’t work for everyone, but if Konyu’s humour is your brand too, you will have plenty of fun here. I take it as almost an annual of Lovecraft’s greatest hits. Clocking in at barely 30 or so pages, you can safely devour this in one sitting.

This is the perfect gift for the Lovecraft fanatic in your life this Christmas.

A Call to Cthulhu by Norm Konyu is available now from 5 December 2023 by Titan Comics.
